I am getting wiser and wiser...

I am getting wiser and wiser, as I was taught by Mr Wise.

I got an R today. What do R really means. It was ashamed to reveal the meaning. Awkward!
My essay, what? We were discussing on essay problems. Hereby, I rewrite the notes.

Essay Problems

-get your facts straight, ex "the Philippines"
-number less than 100 must be written out, ex "thirty seven, not 37"
-avoid lame question, ex "do you know the history that lies behind the country"
-watch the placement of articles, ex "during (the) colonization"
-avoid unnecessary wordiness, ex "(there was a person named) Emilia"
-watch for run-on sentences, ex "Emilia was born in Manila, he completed his education...", should be [Manila. He] or [Manila and he]
-events in the past require a past tense, ex "his efforts contributed" when speaking of someone who is dead
-keep your paragraph together
-thesis statement is the last sentence in the first paragraph
-correct your spelling
-avoid the use of personal pronouns, ex use "one", not "you" or "I"
-avoid excessive use of transitional phrases
-plagiarism is the worst academic fault
-pronouns must refer back to antecedents

* sentence in red is unnecessary wordiness

There are many more which will be discussed this week. This post will be periodically updated.

The reason why list out this problems which has been discussed in class, is nonsense but I got an R. That's all. I hope this can be shared to all my friends, and visitors.

"Read at least a book a month, and an article a day, that's the only way I can suggest to you."

I've to reach the Top 25 standard in the World!

The cut-off point wouldn't really a big deal.

I've been in the ICPU for almost a month! Mr Wise had shared many things with us - in English 3U lesson. Learning media is a very interesting thing, yet very exciting even in a fidget mode. He was very serious.

"If you always do what you did, you will always get what you got... If you don't change, you'll be the same forever," Mr Stephen Wise said.

"University of Toronto is the top 25th University in the world. You have to raise up your standard to the top 25 in the world," from the other speech of his.

"If you come that university, you will be in the bottom, if you don't progress."

Picture of Niagara Fall

"Don't waste your time playing games, chatting!, or all the trush things," and again he said.

He said to be in top university in Canada, is to be in that top standard. You are competing with the world.

Then, the cut-off point of 80 wouldn't really be a big deal then.

In media, we learnt about the truth democracy, the concern and everything. He also recommended reading at least a book in a month, and at least a media/journalist article a day, good media channel, like http://www.iht.com, www.nytimes.com

Meanwhile, next week, we'll have Chemistry test. That's too early test.

And, also, the presentation of Quadratic Function in the morning. I was bubbling around on the application, but it is really attractive presentation, though breaking the time rules, and talking nonsense.

Learning Java is great, this is some of the codes:

System.out.println("You will have a very wonderful life in ICPU, and we have prepared you well, said Mr frank Meeger");

Blackboard ~ e-Education platform

Blackboard e-Education platform - designed to transform the Internet into a powerful environment for the educational experience.

This what makes the work easier. I think it should be applied and utilized by all the school as well, especially the Bestari school or Cluster school.

Blackboard is a really efficient method of two-ways communication from teacher to students. We can access it and get the file attached by the teachers as well as the handout and assignments.

It alerts us on our task, group project, and assignments. We can also do group discussion there.

The Old Carpenter

* This is the story been addressed to us during the Taylor's Registration day. An inspiring story.

An elderly carpenter was ready to retire. He told his employer-contractor of his plans to leave the house-building business to live a more leisurely life with his wife and enjoy his extended family. He would miss the paycheck each week, but he wanted to retire. They could get by.

The contractor was sorry to see his good worker go & asked if he could build just one more house as a personal favor. The carpenter said yes, but over time it was easy to see that his heart was not in his work. He resorted to shoddy workmanship and used inferior materials. It was an unfortunate way to end a dedicated career.

When the carpenter finished his work, his employer came to inspect the house. Then he handed the front-door key to the carpenter and said, "This is your house... my gift to you."

The carpenter was shocked!

What a shame! If he had only known he was building his own house, he would have done it all so differently.

So it is with us. We build our lives, a day at a time, often putting less than our best into the building. Then, with a shock, we realize we have to live in the house we have built. If we could do it over, we would do it much differently.

But, you cannot go back. You are the carpenter, and every day you hammer a nail, place a board, or erect a wall. Someone once said, "Life is a do-it-yourself project." Your attitude, and the choices you make today, help build the "house" you will live in tomorrow. Therefore, Build wisely!

Casa...

What really the mystery behind the word 'Casa', comparatively to others, will wrote 'taylors'? Oh, a very bad topic sentence. Mr. Stephen Wise will be going to teach me more on this in Eng3u class, thus boosting my English knowledge.

I had Mr Lively Leslie, who favors Pittsburgh deeply - the hockey ice team "Pittspurgh Penguins", teaches me Chemistry, while Ms Malar David, Advanced Functions, and Mr Hiung, Computer Information and Science.

Oh, it's nothing to do with the word 'casa', but just because now I'm living at casa apartment, located near to Mydin, Giant and The Summit. Everyday, I have to go through the congested Subang road.

Chess - Application in Life

Online chess
Application of Chess in daily life...

This is the reality of some children in Washington, where survival games are played at every level, some more fatal than the next.

But it doesn’t have to be like that, they tell him at the rec, if you use the same strategy that you would use in chess: Look in front and behind at the same time and know that no piece is to be taken for granted.

It is the same strategy Marte has to use each day: to get to class at Eastern Senior High School, to move around his new neighborhood, where it is dangerous to be like him, new and not known. So he rolls with a swagger as he makes his way alone across the board of life. No rooks, no bishops, no knights out here to defend him.

“In real life you have to be cautious all the time,” Marte says. “There is a lot of killing in D.C. You have to watch your back. You have to be on your toes. When they start shooting, you have to know where to run.”
